Learn about the origin of rock n’ roll as we trace its roots from America to England to the rest of the world. In this class, you will learn about how and why rock n’ roll became one of the most popular musical genres. We will study the blues, the British Invasion, punk, new wave, metal, and more. Additionally, students will have an opportunity to share recommendations, listen to a wide variety of different subgenres of rock, watch concert footage, and discover amazing new bands.
Teacher: Mr. Joseph Shey Weaver
Shey Weaver was born in Anchorage, Alaska and spent his childhood living in many small villages including North Pole and Kotzebue. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a BA in English. He also went to Relay Graduate School in New York City, where he received a Masters of Arts in Teaching. In NYC, he briefly worked on Broadway and played guitar, bass, and drums in several unpopular rock bands. Prior to working for Lakeland University, he worked for Tokyo Metropolitan University and Japan College of Foreign Language.
