An intermediate level English class, students will discuss recent issues in the news. Every week the students will read articles from newspapers and magazines, form opinions, and discuss their views. Topics will depend on the interests of the students, but may include the environment, politics, international affairs, popular culture, and the arts. Being able to discuss recent events in the news and related issues is very important for English-speaking people. Points of emphasis will be fluency, specialized vocabulary, presenting opinions in a clear, organized way, and responding to the opinions of others.
Teacher: Mr. Mark Parsons
Mark Parsons was born in the United States. He received his MFA from the University of Arizona, where he specialized in poetry. He taught English Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona and Oklahoma State University. Since 2005, he has lived in Japan, teaching in Japanese public schools, as well as private conversation schools. His poems have been published in journals and magazines in the US and Canada as well as on the web.
