In this course, students will learn how to write effective college-level essays, going from topics and ideas to complete essays. Working with the customs and expectations of the Standard Academic Essay, students will work on developing and refining such aspects of essay writing as thesis statements, topic sentences, use of evidence and support, counter-arguments, effective organization, establishing credibility, and grabbing and keeping the reader`s interest. The course will be student-centered and reflect the needs and particular situations of the students, focusing on aspects of each students` writing and appropriate level.
Teacher: Mr. Mark Parsons
Mark Parsons was born in the United States. He received his MFA from the University of Arizona, where he specialized in poetry. He taught English Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing at the University of Arizona and Oklahoma State University. Since 2005, he has lived in Japan, teaching in Japanese public schools, as well as private conversation schools. His poems have been published in journals and magazines in the US and Canada as well as on the web.
